Meet the Team: Shon Aguero

by Shon Aguero Oct 27, 2025

Like many people at KlariVis, I didn’t plan on a career in banking. I was a college student in Oklahoma looking for part-time work and happened to apply at a small music store downtown. Across the street was a bank, so I stopped in there, too. The music store never called. The bank did.

My first role was in the credit department, filing loan documents back when everything was still paper. It wasn’t glamorous, but I found that I really liked it. The work had structure and purpose, and it appealed to both sides of me: the analytical side that wants to understand how things fit together, and the creative side that listens for patterns, timing, and flow.

Banking, I discovered, had its own kind of music.

Over time, my work took me across Oklahoma, Texas, and Missouri, eventually leading to a regional president role. I learned how to manage teams, guide strategy, and keep organizations steady through change. Those years taught me that leadership isn’t just about maintaining tempo, it’s about knowing when to pause, when to accelerate, and when to listen.

Discovering KlariVis

I first encountered KlariVis in 2020 while working at a financial institution in Roanoke, Virginia (also KlariVis’ HQ). A few members of my commercial team had worked with Kim and Gill at Valley Bank and suggested we meet. What began as a quick conversation turned into a demo of what they were building.

I’d spent enough time in banking to know how hard it was to get consistent, reliable data. Seeing KlariVis for the first time, I thought, This solves a problem everyone has been trying to fix. It was clean, logical, and immediately useful. I stayed connected with the team over the next several years. When the opportunity came to join the company full time, it felt like a natural next step — both personally and professionally.

Building and Growing

My role in Corporate Development bridges the familiar and the new. It allows me to use what I’ve learned from decades in banking — understanding growth, markets, and relationships — while learning from a team that approaches problems from a fresh, innovative perspective. KlariVis moves quickly: It’s collaborative, focused, and unafraid of change. Titles matter less than outcomes, and ideas can come from anywhere.

That kind of environment reminds me a bit of playing in a band. Everyone has a part to play, but the best performances happen when people listen to each other and adjust in real time. Way back, I actually played bass in a red dirt country band that toured across the south. The drives were long, the nights were longer, and the lessons stayed with me: keep time, stay flexible, and know when to lead and when to support.

Perspective and Change

Making a major career shift after two decades in one field can feel uncertain, but it’s also energizing. The skills you’ve built don’t lose value when you change environments — they gain new context. My advice to anyone considering a change is simple: trust what you know, work with people who have vision, and stay curious enough to ask questions.

Outside of work, I still play music, usually with my sons or a few friends. We pass around a guitar, swap songs, and play until our fingers ache. It’s a good reminder that whether it’s music, leadership, or data, progress comes from the same place, whether you’re expecting it or not.
